Sensory Integration Disorder

I have not blogged in a while and for you 3 people who read my blog, I apologize. I have been so busy with our trip to Alabama, then school starting that I am just now catching up on this.

We have started a new diet right now. I'm reading a book called NDD by Dr. Sears. I started that diet on Wednesday and I love it! It is almost organic, but not quite, and we can still eat a lot of our favorite foods. This has made a big difference on the kids moods (and mine:)) I recommend that book to everyone who has or is planning on having a child, it is awesome what you learn.

On to the title of this post, Sensory Integration Disorder, Anthony was just diagnosed yesterday with this. I'm still learning about it, and I'm not quite sure yet what this means for him and us, but I'm hoping to find other moms out there that are familiar with it. We will began therapy within the month two times a week. So we are up to five therapy sessions a week, each are one hour long. I'm ready to get that going and see what happens. Everything I find says that he could be diagnosed with ADHD or Autisium when he gets older, so I'm trying to get as much information now about those two as possible. If any of you know anyone who has this disorder or is aware of it, please ask them to get in touch with me. I need all the information I can get right now, such as support groups, books, tools, toys, etc.

If you have any questions or comments please leave them. I'll try to post pictures tonight or tomorrow of the kids first few days of school.

Ashley, A friend of mines daughter was diagnosed with this almost a year ago(she is the same age as G). She bought her ear muffs, sunglasses and a walkman with different songs on it so when they would go to the store, she would have that distraction to keep her senses from being overloaded.

Along with that, they started doing speech therapy and things have gotten tremendously better since her speech has exploded.

It was later discovered that she simply had a hearing problem, which makes it hard for her to differentiate between white noise, backgound noise and such.

The Drs also told my friend it was autism. So not the case. Keep your head up! Your on the right path to figuring out what YOU need to do for Anthony. Be persistent, things will get easier for all of you.

Her blog is in my blog roll, you can get a hold of her there. www.coloringoutsidethelines.blogspot.com

Thank you so much Amanda! I will look into those. He currently gets speech therapy and his speech is great! He talks way more advanced than the average 2 year old. I feel like I'm on top of things, just want some more information, I will check out her blog. Thanks again!

Hi Ashley,

I found your blog through the blog hop and saw this post which caught my eye because my 3.5 year old has sensory issues, too! He was diagnosed almost 2 years ago and I still don't completely understand it but he's currently in speech (also has verbal apraxia), occupational and physical therapy and he's doing really well. We went through the whole Autism scare, too so by the time he was diagnosed we were just relieved that it wasn't anything as "severe" as Autism and it's something that they CAN overcome!! Therapy does wonders and catching it early is sooo helpful so your little guy will be just fine!!
